Abstract

The present study analyzed the influence of the Motor Pattern (MP) on kinematic variables, Bilateral Deficit (BD), and asymmetries (% Asymm) in 79 schoolchildren (56 % boys and 44 % girls) from sixth grade, evaluated through an inertial sensor (IS) during the Bipodal Horizontal Jump (BHJ) and Unipodal Horizontal Jump (UHJ) tests. Significant differences were found in the right UHJ: between initial vs elementary MP (p = .006, ES = .407), initial vs mature (p = .003, ES = .940); of the left UHJ: between initial vs elementary MP (p = .050, ES = .524), initial vs mature (p = .009, ES = .880); and of the BHJ: between initial vs elementary MP (p = .001, ES = .470), initial vs mature (p = .050, ES = .980) and elementary vs mature (p = .003, ES = .880). Additionally, we found significant differences (p < .050) in medio-lateral (ML) accelerations during the preload, takeoff, and landing phases. Also, contralateral asymmetries were found in the initial and elementary MP, in the takeoff and landing phases. In conclusion, the MP could influence the performance and biomechanical control of the BHJ and UHJ, and IS appears to be effective devices to evaluate kinematic differences in schoolchildren. Nonetheless, a larger volume of subjects and experimental studies are required to provide additional and conclusive evidence.
